Tirzepatide, also known as Mounjaro, is currently the most effective FDA-approved weight loss drug on the market (shown to be 5-10% MORE effective than semaglutide in clinical trials). Like semaglutide, tirzepatide is a GLP-1 agonist and works on the brain and stomach to reduce cravings and appetite, as well as delay gastric emptying to increase fullness and satiety. Unlike semaglutide, tirzepatide has the added benefit of being a GIP agonist, which alters metabolism to enhance fat burning. This makes it easier to burn off fat with diet and exercise. Tirzepatide has also been shown to have FEWER side effects than semaglutide and reduced incidence of GI upset, nausea, and constipation.
